Google Nest Security Cameras and Doorbells See Significant Price Increases

If you've been eyeing a Nest camera or a new doorbell, your timing just got a little more expensive. As first reported by 9to5Google, Google has bumped prices across nearly its entire Nest camera and doorbell lineup, with most models now running $20 to $30 more than they were last week. The new pricing is already live in the Google Store, effective August 31, so this isn't a "maybe by holiday shopping season" situation. It's already happening.

What went up and what didn't

The hike lands on all five Nest cameras and doorbells currently on sale, with one clear exception. For most models, you're looking at roughly an 11% bump. But the Nest Cam Outdoor took a noticeably harder hit, climbing by a full $50, which works out to about a 33% increase on its own.

The Nest Cam with Floodlight bundle is the one product left untouched, still sitting at $279.99. The likely reason: its built-in floodlight hardware already absorbs the margin that would otherwise push it higher, so Google didn't need to add more on top.

A handful of other Google smart home devices escaped this round entirely. The Google Home Speaker, the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen), the entry-level Nest Thermostat, and the Nest Hub (2nd gen) are all still showing their previous prices, at least for now. Meanwhile, Google also raised the price of its Google TV Streamer by $50, which comes out to roughly a 50% jump on that single device. So this isn't only about security gear getting pricier; it's a broader hardware story.

The reasoning, and why it matters for your wallet

When 9to5Google asked for a comment, Google pointed to rising component costs. According to the statement the company provided, Google is adjusting U.S. pricing on select Nest cameras, doorbells, and the Google TV Streamer 4K, effective August 31, and remains committed to industry-leading smart home security along with continuous feature updates.

That's a defensible explanation, and it lines up with what plenty of other consumer electronics makers have been doing with their own lineups lately. But in real-life terms, what it means is that if you've been meaning to add a doorbell camera, mount an indoor cam in the kitchen, or finally replace that aging outdoor unit, the cost of doing so just shifted. A $20 to $30 bump is small enough to be easy to swallow on a single device, but if you're building out a multi-camera setup, it adds up fast.

If you were already planning to buy, shop around today

Here's the part worth acting on now: the higher prices are showing up on the Google Store, but several third-party retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart, are still listing some models at the older prices. 9to5Google flagged what looks like one of the better current deals, with the Nest Cam Indoor (wired, 3rd gen) in the "Berry" finish going for around $85 on Amazon.

So if a Nest camera was already on your shortlist, this is one of those rare moments where a quick comparison across retailers could genuinely save you $20 to $30 before those listings catch up to Google's new rates.

It's also worth stepping back to see the bigger picture. Google has been steadily expanding the surface area of what it puts inside your home, from thermostats and hubs to kids' tools like Google's Interland, which turns digital safety lessons into something kids actually want to play. When more of your household runs through one company's ecosystem, a price hike on the core security cameras lands a little differently than it would have a few years ago, and it's worth keeping in mind the next time you're comparing a Nest device against something from a brand that doesn't already live everywhere in your house.
